Priorities
As the second-in-command for the State of New Mexico, Stephanie will:
Increase Tax Savings for Front Line Workers: Stephanie will advocate for increased tax savings for first responders. First responders–the public school employees, nurses, emergency responders, and others are on the front lines protecting New Mexico’s families. They have given to us–it’s time we give back.
Stop Price Gougers: Some companies try to prey on New Mexico families–nursing homes that harm seniors, gas companies that raise their prices during summer vacation months, exorbitant mark-ups for rural goods and prescription drugs, gas at the pump and airlines whose pricing defies logic. If you want to do business in our state, you’ll need to play by the rules, and that means treating New Mexico’s families fairly.
Grow New Mexican-style jobs: New Mexico needs to grow our own businesses and create better-paying jobs that fit our state’s culture, workforce, and natural resources. That means jobs in industries like food production, tourism, clean energy, film, healthcare, and construction. Economic growth benefits all of us, from employers to employees to family members. And economic growth is perhaps the best thing we can do to make our communities safer. Stephanie has deep experience in creating new jobs. As the Commissioner of Public Lands, she created thousands of new jobs in renewable energy and through promoting safe and clean commercial activity on state lands.
Make New Mexico Trump-proof: Donald Trump is waging a revenge campaign against immigrants, regardless of citizenship status; those who want to safeguard our elections and democracy; and anyone who values the cultural diversity that makes our state so special. The only way to beat a bully is to stand up to a bully, and Stephanie will do just that, and it won’t be the first time–Stephanie fought back against Donald Trump during his first term and created protections for New Mexico’s important places, including Mount Taylor and Chaco Canyon. When Trump threatens New Mexico’s families with federal funding cuts and our small businesses with politically-motivated tariffs, Stephanie will respond aggressively.
Open the Rolling Roundhouse: In our state’s Constitution, the Lt. Governor is the only statewide office that does not need to be headquartered in Santa Fe. Stephanie will create a Rolling Roundhouse–constituent service offices across the state and outside of Santa Fe to serve all New Mexicans. The Rolling Roundhouse will also include a traveling team to provide constituent services in underserved or rural communities, which will help me respond quickly when natural or human disasters threaten local communities.
